When individuals experience trauma, it often separates them from experiencing sensations in the body. This is the body’s attempt to protect from future similar experiences. However, when the nervous system disconnects the body from “negative” sensations, it also disconnects the person from experiencing positive sensation. This experience is ideal for anyone that has done some cognitive processing around their experiences, has some experience with being in their body, and is curious about exploring somatic therapy in a compassionate group setting. *To ensure the safety of all participants in this retreat, all potential participants will be asked to submit an interest form and do an in-person or virtual consultation to ensure that they are a good fit for this experience.

Your hosts for this retreat are Alyssa Rios, CYT and owner Soul Fire Yoga and Dena Woods, Trauma Touch Therapist and owner of Healing Lab Somatic Therapy
Alyssa Rios is the owner of Soul Fire Yoga Studio and a certified yoga teacher. Alyssa has been working with clients in an individual and group setting since 2019.
Alyssa works with clients getting to know them and their intentions and goals to better assist them along their healing journey. Alyssa’s passion is to make all people, no matter where they are in their healing journey, feel welcome and included. Alyssa strives to create a supportive community in all her classes to offer clients the needed element of healing in connection with others.
Alyssa came to yoga in early 2021 after the death of her best friend. The loss of this friend opened her eyes and pushed her to start living. Yoga offered support for Alyssa’s grief process and a way to be present in her body. Through her own yoga practice she learned how to accept the feelings, emotions, and traumas in her life and hold them with healing and compassion intent. As a practitioner committed to being a lifelong student, Alyssa hopes to teach others what it means to accept themselves because they are whole exactly as they are. It is from this intention that Alyssa envisioned and opened Soul Fire Yoga Studio in 2022. Soul Fire Yoga is a community focused space for embodiment and yogic exploration with the intention of making yoga accessible for all. As Soul Fire continues to evolve, Alyssa hopes to expand her vision both inside the studio and beyond to the Michiana community fostering healing and connection for all people.
Dena Woods is a Trauma Touch Therapist, licensed massage therapist, and certified yoga teacher and has worked with clients in the wellness industry since 2014.
Using a strengths based approach, Dena crafts sessions to meet clients where they are in their healing journey, knowing that each part of the journey is necessary for healing integration. Dena encourages you to show up as you are, knowing that showing up is sometimes the hardest part, and to trust that simply showing up as you are is enough.
Also a survivor of complex trauma, Dena has been in recovery for C-PTSD since 2016. She came to massage therapy, yoga, and Trauma Touch Therapy through her own journey in trauma recovery. These modalities have offered her the deepest healing and support in her own journey and she now offers these services to help others in their trauma recovery. Dena specializes in working with clients that experience PTSD/C-PTSD, survivors of religious trauma, survivors of sexual violence, and survivors of childhood abuse and neglect. Clients that work with Dena can expect to be heard, to be validated, to move at their own pace, and to participate in evidence-based services to help repair the nervous system.
