SACRAL CHAKRA: OPENING TO PLEASURE AND ABUNDANCE
The next Meditation & Collage Art, at A Mindful Place, will focus on the Sacral Chakra. This activity will begin with a guided Sacral Chakra Meditation which will explore our attitudes related to sensuality, fun, enjoyment of food and nourishment, physical well-being including rest, exercise and abundance. Then using the meditation as inspiration you will create a collage focusing on the Sacral Chakra.
The CHAKRA SYSTEM of comprehending energy has been used in India from about 1500 BC to the present. This system of energy cannot be seen or dissected; nevertheless, the qualities associated with each of the seven major chakras and many minor ones are universal to our human experience. It is not necessary to know about theses spinning wheels of energy in order to heal and improve how our energy interacts with the world
The color of the Sacral Chakra is orange; it resonates to the musical note D.
COLLAGES use found images and objects to intuitively create a new composition. Artistic ability is not necessary to make a collage that successfully celebrates and heals the object of the meditation, in this case the sacral chakra. We will cut and paste (literally), use paint, markers, ink, and maybe even glitter, to first create a background and then make a representation of our connection to the earth! This is very much a hands-on experience where we manifest through our hands what happens in our minds during meditation.
COST: $40 and includes magazines and images for you to use, scissors, glue sticks, white liquid glue such as ModPodge, paint, markers, glitter, and other objects.
YOU WILL NEED TO BRING: A piece of cardboard, poster board or foam core to fit a frame of the size you provide. Suggested size is no smaller than 11×14 and no larger than 16×20. Frames can be found inexpensively at thrift stores. A new frame is not necessary since you may want to paint the frame to fit into your finished piece. When selecting a frame you may want to choose a frame with glass to protect your finished collage.
You may bring images you collect, prior to class; collected images related to pleasure, health and abundance. The positive achetype of the Sacral Chakra is an emperor/empress. The negative archetype is the martyr. Collect images that speak to you of healing around sexuality, and feeling deserving. You should not have a plan for incorporating these images into your collage art. You will create your art based on the meditation. Images may be cut from magazines, printed from the internet, or hand drawn. Text and other graphics may also be incorporated. You are welcome to bring images to share with others.

After some years of chakra study, she intuitively connected archetypal images, such as those found in the Tarot, with images associated with the domain of each chakra, combining them to create her collage work. (The above photo is a portion of her Heart Chakra collage.) She has used this technique to deepen her understanding of the chakras and work towards healing. She is currently studying and practicing the healing art of Reiki - November 16, 2019, 2:00 pm-4:30 pm
